São Lourenço do Barrocal
Set on a 780-hectare estate at the foot of Monsaraz, São Lourenço do Barrocal feels more like a lived-in village than a hotel.
Eight generations of the same family have shaped this patch of Alentejo, where olive groves, vineyards, and dusty trails stretch toward the horizon. The old farm buildings have been carefully restored into rooms, cottages, and quiet courtyards, with just enough polish to keep things comfortable but never overdone.
There’s a Susanne Kaufmann spa, two pools, stables, a winery, and a farm shop where you can pick up estate olive oil or herbal tea before heading out for a ride or a stargazing walk. It’s generous, grounded, and full of space to do absolutely everything or nothing at all.
